When I read the GWG update & news posted by Chris on October 13 I thought for a while that the GWG had decided to pay the first 20 places this year. Chris may have not proofread his post before posting it. It read: "We will be paying the top 20 places this year!" What he meant to say was: we will be paying the top 20 places next year. At least that is what I now understand. It is still a very good thing.But I am a bit disappointed now that I am no longer in a winning spot. Well easy come, easy go I suppose.

Nope I wasnt!This years prize level closed June 1st,We most likely will never back pedal after June 1st.

Of course not Mark! As a club officer you knew what was going on before it was ever announced.I just wanted to know if any of the other regular members had misunderstood this statement to mean the top 20 places were going to be paid out this year this year. I remember you told me a few times to not be talking so much about next year as we have not yet finished this years least weigh-off. It seemed that you were telling me to not be talking about and making suggestions for next year until the weigh-offs were over. If this was representative of the club officers thinking then when Chris said:"We will be paying the top 20 places this year!", I thought he meant this year. I am not trying to be a pain in the butt, I was genuinely confused and I was wondering if any of the other club members might have possibly made the same mistake. Anyway, I do think that in the future we should not talk about prize levels for next year until the current year has been settled or at least say "next" year or even next season.

Well now that you mention it....when Chris said top 20 paid this year...I kinda thought you had extended this years prizes to to top 20....but I guess not, based on what I am seeing here. I always thought 'this year' meant this year and if you wanted to say top 20 paid next year, then I guess one should say...next year. No big....looking forward to being in the top 10 next year anyway.... :)

Everytime I start to think, I'm going to join GWG next year. (I had never heard of it til a couple months ago) You two start arguing over petty stuff, and I change my mind again. I've enjoyed reading on big pumpkins since I found the site a couple months ago, but don't have time to deal with some of the drama.

Ok, sorry for the mixup. I should have put 2012. We were trying to address the concerns for 2012 & i said this year since i was working on 2012 & everything was finalized for 2011. My fault. We are trying to keep everyone in the loop as things evolve rather then throw it on everyone at once.
We want the best club possible for all members !

Dennis, I was on the phone with you 5 min before you posted this, why didn't you say something. I would have explained it & made a post to clear this up.

Holy smokes JEB37355....there is no drama here at all!! This is always the problem with the written text on these or any other forums. I have NO problem with top ten being paid out this year and 20 next year....just answering what I accidentally misunderstood....like I said in my post....No Big!! If you don't want to join JEB that's cool...but you are missing out on a great club!! I think you should join and be part of a great community of melon growers worldwide...

Chris, you have my public apology. I wasn't trying to make a big deal out of anything. I was taken aback a little when I spoke to you and realized there was going to be only 10 places paid this year. I just thought someone else might have the same misunderstanding and wanted everyone to be clear on the correct year as soon as possible. There was really nothing left to talk about on the phone other than admitting to you I had misunderstood. I would still have wanted to do this post because I want everyone to be clear on the facts.JEB37355, as far as Mark and I are concerned, I look at our discourse as a sometimes heated debate but mostly just a lively and sometimes humorous conversation. I consider Mark a friend who is doing his best to make a good representative for our club.And I think he mostly does a pretty darn good job of it. Jeb, if your skin is so thin that it bothers you to read about civil disagreements then perhaps the club is not for you. But for everyone who wants to participate in this sport at a higher level there is nothing better or even close to what we have to offer here. I am sorry I misunderstood. I then wanted to clear this up for anyone else who might have understood this incorrectly. I think open and free communication is the key to understanding and helping this club be successful. These club officers are working their rear ends off trying to make this club the success it is becoming and I certainly want to do nothing more than contribute to that in a positive way.Again,if I have stepped on anyone's feelings I am sorry.

Chris,I think you were not asking too much of me by wishing I had expressed my feelings on the phone. I think I was too embarrassed to speak up when I realized I was mistaken. I thought about calling you back but I was a little hesitant and figured it could be taken care of in a post to help clear this up for everyone. There were definitely other members who were under the same misconception and needed to be informed. But it would have been better coming from a club officer instead of from myself.I admit I made a mistake in my actions. I do believe in open communication and nothing held back. One of my favorite phrases is "the truth will set you free". The club will be at it's best if all members are able to say their peace and come to an understanding of what is going on in this critical developmental time.GWG rules!!

I do not care a lick about the money Mr LIpumpkin. I told Chris that last night while I was talking to him and many participants on this forum already know that. I care about winning and the sport of trying to be the best.I will tell you LIpumkin; if I win any money through the GWG next year I will send it to you and let you donate it to your favorite charity.Just send me address and it is yours. I believe about all of us melon-heads spend a lot more money growing melons than we could ever possibly hope to make back. It has nothing to do with money unless you are insane. And what was wrong with me bringing a possible misconception to the attention of other members anyway, Mr LIpumpkin ?

By the way Mr LIpumpkin, I do not consider it my job to concentrate on how to grow the club bigger. I am just a member and indeed I want to see the club grow. But growth has to be realized mainly through the club officers. I only try to help them with what I think is a good idea from time to time.And I hardily recommend the club to any fellow gardeners I talk to.I think any member who is worth his salt will do that. But I certainly have very little to do with boosting club membership. How about you Mr LIpumpkin ? It's a great club;won't you consider joining ?

Mr LIpumpkin, please explain to me how I have hurt the reputation of this club.I really want to know exactly what I said that makes the reputation of this club petty. All I was trying to do was clear up a misunderstanding that I and at least a few of the other members had.I tried to be polite and I used no risque language.I have always tried to promote the club in a good way and I know I have persuaded at least one other person to join.I have never put this club down and did not use this thread to begin doing that. I was simply trying to clear up a possible misconception.

What arguing tallcorn ? Mark made his point and I made mine.Mark is is a nice guy and I am not a bad person. I think we have the right to disagree if we choose to.I think we did so in a civil manner. There was no shouting and no threats. Mark said nothing bad about me and I said nothing bad about him.Why do discussions between Mark and I always seem to get blown out of proportion ? I will always say whatever I choose to on this forum. Others do not have to choose to read it or to respond to it if they are not liking what I have to say.But then I do not personally believe that I have said anything wrong. I may have gotten a little distasteful in defending myself but that is my nature. If I feel I am being attacked I will fight back every time.

Hey guys,Were just average guys,with average jobs,looking to have fun in the patch,1 year ago we saw that Chris Kent grew a World Record & only won 150$ & local money,We thought it should be more,So the 4 of us put this Club together to raise prize levels to an exciting amount.Its like playing Poker without the Quarter,we just added the quarter,thats all,This Club the GWG will rock your Watermelon World!There will be prizes for all but centered on the top 20 for now,We will raise prize levels as membership grows,This is a Great Club ran by 4 very ambitious men,who are very trustworthy & family oriented Im not the Pope & this aint Rome,What you think of me is none of my buisness!If you dont want to join its ok with us,were not forcing anyone to sign up,& please you dont need to tell us your not joining,Amen!

As a person who is very actively involved in a club, I know first hand how it is when things get misconstrude and then posts like this start. That is why I think it is very important that when someone has a question they email the person who posted it especially when dealing with club things. They are easily solved and usually do not involve people getting their nose out of joint.

Having said that I have also learned that when I get an email or read a post than Pisses me off I don't post or email back right away as I'm the representative for a club and what I say and do might tarnish the reputation of that club.

We are all human in the end and mistakes are going to happen but it takes a bigger person to admit to mistakes than it does to post without thought on a message board with no faces attached.
