How often do you seed that has germed inside a watermelon? I'm seeing alot of it this year.. Just curious.. I know it happens in pkns. I think it could be the extreme heat..

I have never seen one do that, so it is probably not common in the cooler climes.

I cut open a small melon from one of my 291 plants. Every seed inside had germinated. After a few days each half looked like a chia pet as the seed leaves became upright and turned green.

I have saw it happen here with fruit that wasn't shaded. So maybe it is the heat that brings it on. If that's true, I'll probably have melon plants growing out of my melons in a few days. It's been extremely hot this summer...

That's very interesting. I seem to remember asking about this possibility last year. I don't remember the responses, but it's neat that it does happen.

One probably wouldn't want to do this for raising giant melons, but I wonder if one couldn't bury a section of watermelon seeds and all in the ground get a bunch of plants.

You don't have to bury them Yoshi. Sometimes if you leave one in the garden to decompose you will have seeds germinating the following spring. We call those volunteers around here. I believe Ms Janet is raising a pumpkin that is a volunteer.
