ps ,if you place within the top five your melon must stay until sunday !after five oclock no exceptions to this rule .If your out of state ,we have no problem harvesting the seeds for you ,and you must donate 1oo seeds for the club ,these seeds will be sold in auctions this year to raise funds for next year .

Should I just show up with the melon I have and 10$ for the entree fee? Or do I have to fill out a form before the festival first? Don't know if the melon I grew will make it until next week without loosing weight the plants is dying out from disease quickly.

HHG, GPC rules, do not allow weighing same fruit or veggie at multiple sites! If first weighoff was non GPC then I guess it is okay!! PS...Sir "and you must donate 1oo seeds for the club" seems a lil weird...I have never been to a weighoff that made such demands...if I wait till after 5 pm and have to take an additional day off from work, so I can take my melon home...do I still have to donate 100 seeds, b/4 you send my prize money? If melon has 101 seeds, does that mean I only get 1? Not meaning to be rude, but sounds like a big request!!! Peace, Wayne

I am growing one for the first time this year. Not for a weighoff but to see what I can do. How many seeds does the average giant watermelon have? Don't most weighoffs have the checks made out ahead of time & just fill in the name at the weighoff site.

100 seeds is a lot it could hurt the value of the seed depending on how you market them!!

If it was free to enter I could almost understand asking for some seeds. But when you have already paid a entry fee isn't that asking for too much.

Come on people they just need a few seeds. If there is a low seed count I am sure they will make an exception.

Ok ,guys heres the deal ,watermelons have hundreds of seeds (,Wayne Rob here) ,no I wouldn`t expect anyone to donate a 100 seeds if they only had a few seeds/less then a hundred seeds that just wouldn`t make sence ! BUT IVE BEEN GROWING THESE THINGS for 6 yrs now ,even my small ones holds hundreds of seeds ,also only a few of the seeds would be sold ,most go back into the plant sales we hold every year ,to get peoples seeds planted, just a way to see what they do or don`t do And as for getting paid no ,you send seeds back in good faith ,we dont hold pay outs until we get seeds ,were not that harsh-lol)-Handy AS YOU KNOW seeds on auctions are sold by bids, so theres no set price on seeds ,that doesnt hurt any value on seeds !-And Wayne-Is correct must not have been weighed at any other gpc sites-Peyton I STARTED THIS WEIGHOFF 4 YEARS ago, with all expenses coming out of my own pocket ,and I, have no regrets at all ,but this is just ways to put, moneys back into the kitty ,to payout father down the line for the following year-and this is not a cut throat weighoff ,its just for fun ,thats the way I want to keep it ,tHE REASONING for the two week hold on checks is simple ,most of my sponsers, dont give there money to the club until after the festival is over ,this gives me time,to make sure all moneys are in ,most of the sponsers we get are ma and pa shops here in town ,hope I`ve gotten everybodys questions ansewered

Thats cool Rob! I saw Marvs 255 being sold for 5 $ a seed by P & P ,I knew it was worth 25$ a seed, now there gone!the demand is high!I just dont want my seeds sold to cheap! It will hurt GWG auction sales!the 255 will really go up after this years weigh-offs!I hope your contest goes well!to early for me the Girls are still cranking!!

Rob, no malintent meant...truly like what yer doin, with one exception...mandatory donations!!! Or semi-mandatory? No other weighoff site that I have been to, which is very limited has a mandatory (stated in rules) seed donation. Lots of newer growers might be a bit skaird, when reading yer rules!! Grow em BIG!!! and best of luck on the 3rd!!! Peace, Wayne
