Growers any ideas what are effective on deer. Got a late night visitor whose liking them young leaves. The freezer is not an option with close dwellings. TY Peter ps so far the pumpkins are fine

There is a product called 'deer hinder', you spray it on the leaves, it smells like ammonia. Try to stop them now, before they get into the routine of eating your leaves.

Hello fellow grower, Your cheapest option is sevin dust, put an ounce or two in a thread bare t-shirt and very lightly dust the runners. Rain is not your friend when using this trick.

Well you ruled out my 300 mag solution, I put up a 8ft net, only cost about 20 bucks a roll at tractor supply. Plus a dog.

It's hard to stop them once they've located a safe food source. You gotta take the "safe" out of the equation. Locals here swear by the radio and they use alot of volume. Other things that have worked for others; fish emulsion and human hair. Some say that deer can't stand the smell of either.

I use my Browning Backdraft bow to keep the deer in check. Actually deer are quite lazy, and a simple fence is enough to keep them out. If not, then back to the bow solution.

put a post at each corner and put a string at 3 and 6 feet between posts around the parimeter of the patch. Hang colored cloth strips, shiney things and things that will make noise if they bump the strings, from the strings. the movement and noise will deter them. It's not fool proof but it works. A high test fishing line works well as it is harder to snap. the things hanging from the string remind you it's there too, so as not to clothesline yourself getting into the patch.

add a deer deterent like OH-NO deer or Repells all and you can have a deer free patch/garden.

I've tried everything here short of fencing to keep deer out of the garden. Radio worked for awhile, then I saw the deer and coons dancing to the music one night after they got used to it! Human hair worked until the scent wore off, maybe if you kept replacing it?? I don't currently have a dog, but I bet that would work well. Maybe I can bribe the coyotes to patrol the area more often, bet that would work too...This year I have had a problem with the turkeys in the patch this year. There is one huge one that I'm guessing would go 30+ Lbs. Electric fence is in the works for next year to keep the coons and deer out of the patch and sweet corn...

We tried all kinds of things for 15+ years. We couldn’t get the orchard going, or anything else. We put up a 7’ fence and they just jump over it. Now we’re trying the dog+fence. It’s working, but has its down sides too. We had a couple dozen turkeys, elk, deer, coons, etc.., but the dog is doing wonders so far. It’s a great pyrenees which can stay out all winter no problem.

Hadn't had them get in the melon patch yet, but they had a buffet of butterbeans. I put t-post in the ground and put 3 strands of 5olb fishing line up. For some reason they never would cross the line, has something to do with the fact they can't see it.

In the past I have boobytrapped my patch with firecrackers.I get rocket igniters from the hobby shop, put it in a pack of firecrackers, wire it up to battery and run fishing line across their path. They trip the line, crackers go off and scares the crap out of them! worked for me.
