Anyone know which day they are going to have their weigh-off? Also a list of events. Their web site has very little info. Mike Cooper

Mike - The watermelon festival is Aug. 11, 12 & 13. The large display watermelons for the festival will be auctioned off on the 13th. The auction is usually at 10:00. The actual contest for big melons at Hope is for growers in the trade area and the contest is open the entire summer. A second contest was added by the chamber of commerce this year in response to Giant Watermelon Growers Club's formation. The second contest is a GPC weigh-off for watermelons and it is open to growers everywhere. The new contest is the Old Washington Farmers Market Watermelon Weigh-off. It will be held on Saturday morning of Labor Day weekend. You will take Exit 30 on I-30 and go north on Hwy 278 for a few miles to the state park at Washington. Melons will be weighed in at city hall and then displayed in the pecan grove around Williams Tavern Restaurant. The $1,000 in prize money will be limited to watermelons. Wear your cotton underwear. The weather will be at it's hottest.

Mark-I will check and get back with you. Since it is a multi-state competition, it will likely be spread like 400, 300, 200 & 100 to help growers with their travel expenses. Lloyd
