Nuts seems to be taking hold and growing. I really don't expect great size out of it as it seems I probably won't have any big ones at all this year and the pollination of this melon was very late. It's a very special melon and I want to give it a very special appearance. I want to grow it on it's edge to give it a more symmetric and striking appearance. It will look like one melon growing on top of another and that will make it an extremely tall melon. If it grows on one of it's sides it will appear very flat and just very odd looking.I know that after getting some size the big melons develop a flat spot on the bottom that steadies them and helps to keep them from rolling over. I need ideas on how to steady this melon in the position I want it to grow in without hurting the melon any.It will be almost like trying to grow a melon sitting on its blossom end. All input is appreciated.

You may have to take into account the stress on the melons as they grow to choose the best position. Would be a shame to lose it cause the were sitting on top of each other & the weight crushed the lower one.

Chris, I don't think it will get big and these melons are very strong anyway. I recall your picture of your lovely wife Janet laying on top of your melons posing for a picture.Two fused together would be awesome if that could be done. Preferably it would be from 2 separate plants think. I believe I will prop each side with something like a bookend.That should keep it from falling over and I think it won't injure the melon.

I don't think they would fuse unless it was at the bloosom.

Fused at the blossom would look very funny. You could easily grow the worlds longest watermelon. I think if something like that started happening on a regular basis the rules would be changed to make them illegal.

Sorry, think I should have said conjoined as a bloosom. Canteloupe would be the easiest to try it on, alot of times you find them at the ends of side vines and you can move them around alot easier.

Dennis looking at nuts i think you should try and grow them side by side if you can.. Mother nature puts them side by side .. Not stacked that just aint rite !!! lol

Dennis this is just a couple things to think about ,and in no way am i trying to tell you how to grow this melon and you have probably thought it thru.....this is for sure a rare opportunity. ok that was my disclaimer....But if this melon does get big will the small bearing surface of the bottom melon be able to support the weight of 2 melons instead of the 1 melon it was designed to support. next is you will need to figure out how to support it, it will be top heavy if it rolls after getting pretty big it will probably rip the stem or bust the top melon.. just my thoughts. kirk
