I am just wondering if any growers on here besides myself are growing seeds from the Leonards that are from a melon other than the 239. I don't remember anyone listing a non 239 seed they were going to be cultivating this year. Seems to me like there would have been some interest; so, are they difficult to get or what? Or maybe I am the only person who asked them for non 239 seeds this year. I'm just curious. They seem like really nice people and were happy to help me out. I was just to bashful to ask them for any 239's as the one I had was still alive and growing when I was doing emails with them. They did send me seeds from 3 different and very good melons.I hope I am able to return the favor sometime.Thank you Leonards.

The Leonards are great people and are always giving of their seeds, they do have some other great seeds besides the 239, the reason they don't have many of those left is they gave them virtually all away when grown. They have always supported the GVGO seed giveaway with any seeds they have kept from watermelons or pumpkins. They grow their melons in a fairly large greenhouse and its quite hot so that is why I think they do well in our not so warm climate here in Ontario each year.

You've probably also have their 151. They told me it was a very good plant that suffered early problems that kept the melon from getting a lot bigger when it suffered an early demise (voles I think it may have been).I have a 151 Leonard growing at the top of my patch. Hopefully the top row plants will pan out for me and we may be able to get some idea of how good these seeds are. If I commit myself to taking care of these top row plants they are so crowded (9 vines) they will have to remain very small as they are headed up against the house and are planted about 6 or 7 feet apart.

Beeman I guess you know that the 197 is the plant that grew the 239 Leonard.Did you think about growing the 211 for a pollinator?

The 211 grew my 213 my 1st year. I didn't know anything about melons nor did i take very goo care of it. I was just playing with melons that year. The seed should be able to grow alot bigger. It may be the power behind the 239 for all we know !

I agree with you Chris. My 211 has started out as a very strong plant. I think I will use it as a pollinator on several other plants.

If nothing else you could use it as a pollinator and recreate the cross that resulted in the 239 Leonard.Male flowers come early. Plants will grow very fast this time of the year anyway. I believe you have time to grow a very nice late melon and maybe a monster sized one. I know your season will run late down there in Georgia. I need an addy beeman.
