Paul, is there any weighoffs in your area ? Its only 100 for the lowest tier GPC. Maybe if there is none, you could start one !

Hey Paul do you have a local nuresry that sells plants& garden supplies ect. There should be several places.Put up some flyers looking for people to grow giant watermelons & have local contest you will be surprised at response it may take a year or two to get enough people, but it will happen, then go GPC site. They have a small basic package thats pretty reasonable.Spread the word dammit!!Kirk will help you!

Hey Paul someone contacted me earlier this year from Mississippi wanting to see how much interest they could get in a deep south weigh off. Tennessee was closer for me but I'll see if I can find the e-mail. Kirk may have gotten it too.

David, I would like to see that before long, but I think we need to generate some intrest in growing them in our area. I only know of just a few of us that seriously grow them. Maybe a few pumpkins and one or two LG growers. Maybe a small local weighoff just for fun might help generate some interest. Doug and I have tried to help several people get started and I'm sure you have too. You also have a good avenune to help young growers get interested through that 4-H contest.

I don't think we would have enough to try for a GPC yet. Especially as hard as it is to grow a pumpkin down here. Hats off to GA pumpkin growers. But maybe a local weigh off would get the ball rolling. Get people growing.

To all of you, try your local newspapers tell them the history of kins & melons,Looking for growers type deal They may do a human interest post in paper & help get it off the ground.Squeaky wheel gets the grease.Start a local contest,Go GPC When you get a dozen people with the Fever!! The 4-H is a great place to start,I hate to tell people about the prizes(What clubs today are paying)we all know money is pure evil,But it really gets there interest if they are gardeners.LOL Ga.may end up with a GPC that weighs more melons than kins.Im sure the GPC wont care ask your regional rep.
