Lack of interest, so it was discontinued and replaced with the Field Pumpkin category.

I could understand the problems, because man do those these go down quickly. You would have to absolutely time the setting of the fruit with some date of a festival. It was fun growing them, but I should have ate them instead of trying to keep them on the vine.

Kirk, Andy, MMM, and awl...eatin them is prbly the best idea...unless you are on target, w/ days till weighoff!!! I, hopefully have seeds coming from PHV, big ole lopes grown in KY!!! They go ripe & then, down very fast!!! Peace, Wayne

Mine are ussually done way to early for weighoffs too. If I plant to late the heat just kills the plant.

Holloway, I wish the GPC would set up lopes, as they have maters (because timing is almost impossible)...allowing them to be weighed offsite, when they are at their max weight!!! First, I guess is getting them to include them in the category again!!! I know of a super gentleman in KY. that put a 55#er on scales this year!!! Hopefully our area rep...Andy!!! will help us get lopes back on the list!!! Peace, Wayne
