I have my plant in a cold frame and on a sunny day it can reach temps over 100. I have top cracked open for ventilation and all seems to be ok so far. just wondering How hot can it get before the plant gets affected. and what is optimal temp for growth?

Be careful, 100 is probably around their top limit. Even this may be a problem if you don't supply lots of moisture. That said, these are heat loving plants and I think temps in the mid to upper 90's provide ideal growing conditions. Pushing a plant to its limit is a good thing as you will get the best results this way. Push a plant over its limit and you may no longer have a plant. Good luck, TD.

sorry i was too vague. I have the cover cracked open and it gets in the 90's in there. But i was wondering if having it closed was a better option. If 100 plus is dangerous I will just leave well enough alone. Thanks for the info

never saw a healthy watermelon wilt at less then 90. Pumpkins yes. If its geting that warm, i would remove the cold frame. or keep temps at 90 or less. IMHO
