Go Dave! Looks like a real good year for you to me. Srarting out with great seed is especially important. Last year I used Carolina Cross seed from a catalog and ended up with a 97 pound skinny melon. After that, I solicited seeds from other growers on this message board. This year I have a watermelon that is 200 pounds plus and still growing.I didn't do much else differet so I think the better seed have helped tremendously.Have you thought about posting a picture of that cantaloupe on this web site? I would love to see it.

If I get another camera in time I will. Loaned my last one to a family member and it was stolen while she was on vacation. The cantaloupe was from 46.6 Westfall 08 and pollinated by a 50 Gibson 06.

Chris, I have 3 melons close in size that should make it to the fair but they won't special to anyone but me. They're from 199 Knight, 231 Mitchell and 150 Bahaskaran, all were open pollinated. I very effectively killed a pair of your 213's and 255 Mitchell's and a host of others. Next year I'll put them in a better spot and give them more care. Work on that location has already started. Plants were started in early Apr. and did not record pollination date. At that time I was just going to raise some big ones to sell. My priorities have changed. I want to compete!!
