What is the proper method for measuring watermelons to estimate weight? I have the ott chart for watermelons but how do you get the total inches? I know its a dumb question but ive never bothered to know the weight until harvest, but I have a couple that are growing really well, so I'd like to give this a shot.

Always measure at the fattest part of the melon. Measure the circumfrence at the stem to the blossom and back to the stem. This will be a horizontal measurement about halfway up the melon from the ground. Then measure from the ground and over the stem and over to the blossom end and all the way to the ground again. And measure also across the top ( short way ) from ground to ground. All 3 of these added up are your OTT inches. You should get back to this forum and let us know what you came up with.

thanks for the info..Using this method my best two melons are 160 inches or 121lbs at 30 days, and 150 inches or 102 lbs. at 21 days. Some of my vines are showing stress from the wet weather here this summer but these two are still in good shape...
