My seeds went in the ground inside in March. The plants are significant size and will be going into the garden within the week. After all, this is Minnesota, and my growing season is only so long.

I need to be setting fruit by the end of June or early July in order to have the big one by the end of September.

I just thrashed and put up 4 hoop houses right after work today before it started to rain, and I was able to get (2) 267 Edwards, (2) 255 Mitchells planted today. My plants are the nicest ones I have ever had. I still need to plant my 199 Crowley and 50# Gibson muskmelon.

Bill Donkers of Ontario (PB 235#) has always directly planted his seeds into the garden in late May/early June & has always been in contention come weigh off day. We're trying one plant this way this year, just to see if there is much difference. Bill has had many watermelons over 200# & is one of Canada's best melon growers ever. If he ever decided to start plants a little earlier, he might just give the WR a run for it's money. I just thought I'd add this in for those who are getting a late start.
