Ok when I was a kid black diamond watermellon were a rare treat. I have ordered some black diamond seed.

How big do these things get. I remember a 75 pounder at the Kansas State Fair when I was a kid.I think.

Do many of you guys grow this? If so do you like it?

Any other variteis you'd recomend?

CCW,
I think they can get to 150 lbs...there are hybrids with the blue and black rind...

This is from the Bright's order form:
Hybrid Black Diamond #156 for Black Diamond Contests
These seeds were collected from Willhite Black Diamond watermelons that were hand pollinated with pollen from the offspring of a 156-pound Blue Rind watermelon. Blue Rind watermelons are similar to Black Diamonds but increase in size much faster.

Is the website...I have ordered seeds from them the last 2 years. They used to have a 41" strain...but now you have to get the 229 to get their "long" seed.

Hey CCW,

I grew Black Diamond yellow bellies commercially for three years, mine averaged 40-50lbs. Make sure you pick them as soon as the belly turns yellow are the sun will bleach the top of the melon, it want effect the taste but sure makes them hard to sell.
