How many days does it normally take to grow a large watermelon?

I suppose what you are asking, is how long until the melon stops growing, and starts deteriorating. I grow for competition, and not necessarily for eating, but all the melons generally are quite good.
I start sprout the seeds in early March, with plants above ground by mid March. They go in the garden in mid May, and I set fruit in mid to late June. The plants are pretty much done growing by the end of September.
So the plant is about 6.5 months old, or 200 days. The fruit is 3 months old, or about 90 days.
Your mileage may vary.
