Were supose to get alot of rain the next few days after 3 weeks of none. I have been watering, but was concerned. Do watermelon crack open if too much rain the way a pumpkin will ? Any thoughts ? Thanks

Last year August I unofficially had 12" to 14" of rain in my garden in one day. The rain did it's damage to the plants, and basically curtailed any growth, but I didn't get any splitting in the melons.

Wow, thats good to know. If we got that much mine would be floating down the river.

My melons just about were. The vines acted as erosion stops getting buried deep, but lots of my garden went in the pond that day. Of course we were lucky. There were people whose houses floated down rivers or were lifted up and moved over on top of a railroad track. Lives were lost. It wasn't pretty in Southern Minnesota during last year's August flooding.
