I recently started a late in the season grower's diary.I have seen a few of your diaries. They tend to get lost in the pumpkin diaries as there are many of them and fewer for watermelons. Most of the melon growers diaries are also pumpkin growers I have noticed.Anyway I was hoping to find out here who is keeping an online diary so I can check it out if I haven't already seen it.Thanks.

Thanks for the reply Croley. You are doing well as I can tell by the new pictures you posted.I think about everyone on here is beating me.I will hopefully have better seed next year.If I am lucky I may still come up with a personal best though.I only have to beat 103 pounds. It is day 42 and the melon is 39" at it's best circumfrence and 31" long.It is still somewhat smaller at the last few inches on the stem end.The vine is still very healthy but the meoln is probably gaining only about a pound a day.

Hey Tennesse that's great length. I know you said you only had one plant would have been nice if you could have crossed it with a thicker melon. I think your probablly going to have a new personal record. I also seen croley's diary those are some pretty melons. Look like they are doing well. Good Luck

Thanks for the compliments Tennesse Dreamer and Holloway. I am trying my best. Took some measurements yesterday. Circumfrence is 63" on July 29. I hoping it makes it,last year I didnt put anything underneath, this year I surely did. Thanks again for taking time to ready my diary. Are you growing any Holloway?

Yeah, I've got one 54 days that is estimated 155 lbs by the OTT. Got several others 120+ at different days. I just hope it don't go light. It's about 36" long and 46" in girth around belly. Does that sound big enough to weigh 155 to you guys? I don't know. Well good luck

It's a beautiful melon, but I am not sure it looks like 155 yet from the picture. I like the length, and when I looked in my record keeping for melons with like characteristics, I didn't find many that matched. You have incredible length, but very small girth. I hope it gets fatter. When you talk 36" length is that a looking down visual straight length?

Here's the closest that I found. 153 weight with a 46 girth but a length of 39". That's why I wondered about the projected weight.

Melon Man, I think that may have been Croley's melon you seen the pic of I haven't posted one. I tried to measure it better today. I have a board 36" long under it. It looks like it's hanging over about an inch, so I think is about 37" long. I've been afraid of disturbing the fruit so I have been measuring the end as far as I can get the tape under it with out lifting it so it may have a few more inches off girth. 46 was pretty conservative. I've been measuring it pretty conservatively to keep from getting my hopes up. I don't think it would be any more than 50" though. It's very blocky the ends look square. It's measuring about 164 by the chart but I'm like you I still have my doubts. What kind of girth do you like to see on a melon of this length? Have you got some monsters going?

Hey Tennesse, I looked at the first pics in your diary. Was that stem end a little leathery and soft when it was small? Was it kind of dry or hot when that melon was set? I am further south, but it gets so hot and dry here I have to set mine in June or they will have leathery spots. I don't really know if it is water or environmental conditions. I don't think it's water though because I watered them the same. Some of the later ones filled out some but never got as big as the ones I set in early June. Most of them I set in July were so soft they rotted. Also Croley how old is that 197 Mudd. It is a pretty melon.
