I waited as long as I could but had to pick my monster today. I guess 145 lbs wasn't too bad for a first try. Unfortunatly I won't be able to compete since the fairs are all in oct. Not sure what the SC state record is anyway. Goodluck everyone.

Congratulations Charger! You must be very proud of 145 pounds. My first effort was a best of just 103 pounds. I would like to think I will do better this year.
My melon has been growing for about 37 days and is just a little over 70 pounds I think. You should do something to celebrate your accomplishment.Share with friends or local businesses or charities. Or perhaps someone who writes a gardening column for the local paper would be interested in an article and some pictures for the local newspaper.
I bet not too many people in Charleston have ever seen a watermelon that big. You should at least take some pictures so you'll have better memories of this. Are you keeping a growers diary? If you get any digital pictures would you email me a copy to coolvol@comcast.net. Thanks, and congratulations again.

I am just amazed that you are picking melons already. I am still deciding which one to keep on one of my plants. Let us know when you open it, and we will all stop in for some melon.
