Hi folks, I, like many of you have complained a lot lately about the unusually cool Spring and how it has slowed growth. Many of you haven't had much of a problem because you were fully prepared to induce good growth in cool weather by providing the heat and light necessary for optimum growth.I have never encountered this cool of a Spring as long as I can remember.Anyway - several weeks ago I decided to place a 400 watt metalide light over the plant at night to help speed things up. After a couple of weeks, I expanded to 2 400 watt bulbs. Then a week or so ago,I added a 150 watt high pressure sodium fixture I have. Then last night, I added another 400 watt metal halide. So I now have a total of 4 bulbs I am burning at night. The results have been incredible. The plant has gone from almost nothing to being probably over 12' long and nearly 10' wide. Actually, the plant has so many runners it is close to being round. The leaves are very short and lagre and have an excellent dark green color.I polinated my first melon this morning and there are several more that will be blooming and polinated soon.I can't wait to see how fast they swell up under the power of this rapidly growing plant.I just hope things don't mess up in any way.It would be nice to hear back from some of you other growers as to how your projects are coming along.Happy growing everyone.

I would hate to see your electrical bill, But I would do the same if I had the lights. My plants are just barely starting to run. They are not even a foot long yet.
