Just out of curiousity, whats your water bill look like during the growing season? I see the size & number of plants some of you grow, and I cant believe all of you get free water?? My little patch's consumption caused my bill to peak in Oct...at just under $200.00

I get mine for almost free... $90- flat rate for as little or as much as I want. It is secondary water (non drinking- screened river water) in a separate system and is availble from May 15th through Oct 15th. I'm glad I bought a house in an old Orchard.

A local grower once told me that his water bill was about $250 a month during the summer.

My city water bill was about 60 bucks a month during the summer.....but I was only watering 3 plants so that may have something to do with it. I can't even imagine having to pay 200+ a month for water!

My water bill was free this year. Do to it raining almost every single day. 21 out of 31 in July. Local record.

Oh yeah, water bill & added sewer use taxes do add up. The lawn sprinklers beat us up too in a dry summer. Up to $200 in a very dry month.

WOW, and I thought my water bill was high...When I replaced the liner in our pool this past spring, I used about 12000 gallons of water in three days. My water bill barely topped fifty bucks. I think we pay $4.26/thousand gallons. We don't have a sewer bill (septic). So to have a 200 dollar water bill I would have to use almost 47000 gallons of water! Guess I have to quit griping about the water bill.

The water is cheap here, but they charge you to death for the sewer bill. The sewer bill is based on the water you use, whether or not it goes in the sewer or on the patch.

Too bad, Moondog. We get our sewer bills reduced in the summer because of all of the water that doesn't make the sewer that gets put on lawns and gardens.

Brian- I only grew one plant this year, so your bill should have been 600.00/month.

We don't have water meters here in Vancouver, thank God. But we do pay for it in other forms of taxes...

But in Canada, you have better beer, so we're still ahead in the "get'n screwed" race :)

Talk about sewer! You are lucky to be on a sewer line. I'm having to pay $12,000.00 for a septic system for our new home!

My well water sucks, so I haul my water. It's a 12 mile round trip, and I use a 500 gallon tank. I made 151 trips this summer. The cost to fill each tank $2.25 Cost of Deisel full for the truck $87.00 per tank Cost of Trailer $4,687.00 Cost of tank and Hoses $1,236.00 Seeing the smiles the Giants bring to visitors PRICELESS
Seriously I do haul my water, Other than the outright cost of the water $2.25 per 500 gallons, the equipment was allready in our possession So cost for the whole summer $339.75

In our allotment we paid $30 p.plot (I´ve rent 2 plots) a year, no limit in use. But the water out of the pipe is very high ph and cold and must stay for days in containers. Next year I´ll buy a pump and than I´ll get water out of a drench which is next to my plot. In the drench probably not only water but also all the nutrients which was washed out of our soil.

It apalls me to pay higher sewer use tax when the water is only partly for washing & mostly for irrigation. So I pitched a fit on the tax dept. They say I can install a seperate meter just for irrigation. I think over 2-3 years the expense would break even. I haven't made the time to get a firm quote on another seperate line & meter yet though.

Well water is nice in California. :) Pay for the electricity to run the pump, and pray there aren't any rolling blackouts!

I can get a seperate meter for outside use as well, but haven't checked into it either. The neighbor has one and says its great.

You need an environmental impact study, permit & a civil engineer to dig a pond here IF it's allowed by zoning & it isn't. I need to move to a red state..............
Stan, Not useless per se. But it might not be cost effective. LOL

red states scare me. I'm getting a 1500 gallon tank set up this winter so next year I'll have very little water to pay for... i hope. Tom

Tom....I am not following your logic. 1500 gallons isn't going to go very far on a hot day. How are you proposing to fill it?
