From the link below
"The Role of Zinc in the Plant"
"The specific role of Zn in growth and development of plants is not known. This nutrient is an important component of various enzymes that are responsible for driving many metabolic reactions in all crops. Growth and development would stop if specific enzymes were not present in plant tissue."

I have done research on it myself and all I could find is information on deficiencies. Nothing on if benefits could be achieved by going beyond elimination of a deficiency.
Personally took an interest in it because of its ability to help heat resistance in plants...but again only if it is not a deficiency, sheesh...
Maybe someone else could write in.

I would like to get more info on what excessive amounts of zinc in you soil contribute to. As I have elevated levels due to a galvanized 1/4 hardware cloth covering one of my entire patches to stop our notorious hail we get here in colorado. On my soil test I could not figure out where all of my zinc came from, as I have never added any, and it is aparently leaching from the cover over the patch. On my other patch I am using a fabric hail cover so that I do not encounter the problem of zinc there also. My question is am I creating a problem for my plants by keeping the metal hail net, or should I get rid of it and switch to fabric, and then try to leach some of the zinc out ?? James...
