I didn't think I got too early a start but some of my pumpkins seem to suggest I did. I have a large one (125-150lb) nearing the ripening phase of it's short life. Realizing fairs/contests are months away....is there a way to keep it around until then?

I've been told you can keep a pumpkin on the vine 80-90days if this is not true. I would be interrested to know too. I have two pumpkins that will be at least that old.

FYI..last year my pumpkins stopped growing at 60 days due to heat and drought...stopped around August 30th...they remained on the vines until weighoff on Oct 3(2?) and a couple until Oct 11. I lost none. None grew .....but none rotted. The trick seems to be to cover to keep dry and cool, dust with insecticide/fungiside regularly, and keep the weeds away...lotsa air circulation....good luck....they wer on the vine up to 110 days total.
