I have several pumpkins that have circumferences of greater than 75" and are too heavy to move/lift. I've waited too long to prepare the ground under them. Any suggestions on how to preventing the bottoms from rotting ? I'm concerned if I try to gently role them to slide something under them, their stem will split.

I would at least start putting beach sand around them. Odds are that if you if you role 10 pumpkins you will break at least 2 vines. At least that is my average. Before you know it one of your pumpkins will be 120 inches in circumferences at lease you will have something under it. good luck.

getting something underneath a 75" cirumference pumpkin is no task that i would want to partake in. i'm not sure if you could do it without damaging the pumpkin or the stem or both. try putting some sand around it, i think that's going to be about the best you'll be able to do at this point. it doesn't take long for them to get real big, you should try and get something under them when they're small. good luck, scott

At the very least....increase the sunscreen/cover so the ground remains perfectly dry around the pumpkin--the dryer the better.Slug pellets around the fruit for 5 feet out,and dust the exposed bottom areas with insectiside/fungiside dust.Id put sand around it too. This is the LEAST I would do...Glenn
