Our seed auction will be held THIS SATURDARY, December 4th at 4pm PST. We have changed the order of the seed lots around some and have added an extra lot. We have some new ideas for the auction this year on ways to keep it going fast and ways of bidding that should keep it interesting we hope! Also we want to give more people a chance at some great seeds. So here is the new list and the rules for our auction!

Opps, accidently hit the enter key there, looks like I hit twice. Oh well.

It's reverse, what it's going to be is we will start at say 400 for the 1097, and we will count down the price until someone says stop. The person who says stop gets the seed. It should be a lot of fun.

If no one said stop until $1, and you said stop then, you would get it. You gotta wonder when someone else is gonna say stop though....... It should be pretty exciting for those wanting those seeds.

Some of those lots makes me wish I wasn't broke, especially that Daletas Classic lot! I take it M means you have more than one of the same lot?
Awesome job on the lot names...and what a lineup!

Ok guys, here's what we could come up with. We're trying some new things this year. I guess we'll see how they work.
Thank you for supporting the Pacific Giant Vegetable Growers. Thanks especially to those who donated seeds to the auction and to Ken and John at Bigpumpkins.com for hosting the auction. All money raised from the auction will be used to support club activities. We are going to make every attempt to keep this auction moving! To facilitate an efficient auction, the following guidelines are provided.
1. Please keep chatter not related to the bidding to a minimum. 2. If you bid on a lot, please state your name with your bid (stating your name will not be necessary in the reverse auction format as described below). 3. If you win a bid please email Jack Larue at [email protected] immediately to confirm your bid. 4. Seeds will be sent when payments are received. Send payments to: Pacific Giant Vegetable Growers P.O. Box 1194 Mulino, Oregon 97042 5. There will be two distinct auction formats—traditional and reverse. Lots 1 – 5 will be in the reverse auction format. Lots 6 – 30 will be traditional. In a reverse auction the auctioneer designates a starting point for the bid and lowers the bid until someone says STOP (all the reverse auctions will start at $300). The person that stops the auction wins the lot. 6. There are 30 lots, and there will be multiples offered of several of the lots (lots 6,7,8,10,11,12,14,15,18,20,22,25,26,28). In the multiple lots there will be three lots total offered. The winner of the auction will have the opportunity to buy all of the lots or just one. The second highest bidder is obligated to buy one lot if one remains at their highest bid, and may buy all remaining if there are more than one. Likewise, the third highest bidder is obligated to buy the third lot if it has not been sold.

An example of this format: (thanks to Nic for the example)
Bids:
Jack L. $150 Steve D. $320 Brett H. $325 . . . SOLD! Lot X is sold to Brett Hester for $325 Brett takes one lot
The second highest bid was $320 by Steve Daletas Steve buys the second set, and opts to take the remaining set as well.
The end result is that Brett pays $325 for 1 each Lot X and Steve pays $640 for two each Lot X
If Steve hadn't taken both lots, the third high bid of $150 by Jack LaRue would have given Jack a purchase of Lot X for $150
7. Please check the lots posted on BP.Com and print them out just before the auction to keep track. The list has changed since first being posted so please print it out just previous to the beginning of the auction. 8. For more information or to comment, contact Mike Golat at [email protected]

A reverse auction format is not in the best interest of the bidders, only thr sellers. It can cause the spending of $50 to $100 more for a lot. Not more fun, more expense.

In the reverse how low do you dare to go? How bad do you want the seed?
Remember this auction is to raise funds for the club.
IMHO this is a good cause & a good option for those who have the means & really want that particular seed.

I guess on the reverse auction you're gonna have to have a set price in mind, and if you want it really bad, when it starts getting close to that price, are you willing to grab it for that few bucks more? It should make things go fast, and with 30 lots, we're going to need to go as fast as we can.

How fair will a reverse auction be to everyone? What if someone with a slower connection puts his bid in first but a person with a fast connection bids later. Which one do you think will get it? Just a thought, not trying to slam anything. Thomas
