This was discussed in a post recently, and so i decided to see when "remakes" were more successful than the cross they remade. Now, I realize that remaking a cross that wasn't 1300 lbs isn't the same thing as remake a cross that yielded a 1300 lb fruit, but I thought I'd share my findings:
The 1373 Dueck-Papez 03 was a remake of the 541.5 Hopkins 02 The 897.5 Davies 04 was a remake of the 752 Blair 03 The 1025 Mombert 04 was a remake of the 723 Houghton 03 The 1028.8 Carlson 03 was a remake of the 930.5 Barlow 02 The 1056.5 Dueck 00 was a remake of the 700 Creuziger 99 And lest we all forget that the 550 Andrews 04 was a remake of the 528 Kuhn 03.
My point is that being an optimist, I encourage everyone who is considering a cross next year that's been done before to hold their head high. I am typically a forward thinking guy, but when I've got a pair of seeds that have been paired up by others with good results before, it's awfully tempting to give them a shot. Not only that, but it then provides a nice seed to cross with the seed resulting from the original cross. Same Cross crosses include:
1097.5 Beachy 02 (723 Bobier 99 x 845 Bobier 00) 1170 Wells 04 (1002 Gibson 03 x 1097.5 Beachy 02) 944.2 Lloyd 03 (1038 Emmons 02 x 842 Eaton 02) 930 Carlson-Peterson 04 (735 Pukos 01 x 724.5 Carlson 02)
Anyway, just my thought for the day.
