I just picked up a heater for my cold frame and was wondering how much earlier the plants could be put into the ground? or does it just prevent against those cold spring nights?....Chris

is that a soil heater or an air heater i would caution you on trying to start to early as you could end up with a ripe pumpkin in early august and have to keep it from rotting until weigh off time but the last week of april/first week of may is a good time to start your plants

It is an air heater. I thought I would be able to get more leaf production and not attempt to set a fruit until early July. Chris

My electric heaters let me put my plants out on May 10th. Our last frost around here isn't until the first week in June so it gets me almost four weeks of growing time.
