Geez, the ongoing situation in Iraq, deer hunters being murdered in Wisconsin, and many at this site causing the fur to fly before we've even had a good snowfall yet! Anyway, I received a note from Don Langevin today that he is working on "How to Grow Giant Pumpkins IV! Scheduled to come out 2006, this will be a coffe table type book from an "entirely organic perspective"! Don also states that this will probably be his last. He's looking for some "high quality" pictures preferably on film, not digital. Finally, something to look forward to,(besides Spring 2005!)

Interesting... but I wonder why film and not digital? I have several photos in book III, and if I do say so myself, I think they're pretty darn sharp and colorful. Of course, those were shot with good equipment and I have a lot of experience.
But photography, good or bad, is photography, no matter if digital or film is used. If you shoot digital at 4 MP or better, with good lenses and don't throw away any data, the results can be great! But all that data must be saved for good prints.....
Ah, he's looking for large format photographs... two page spreads... large size paper... coffee table book! (Duh!)
My D100 can do that, but sometimes you have to convince people. ;=)

Cliff,
He PREFERS film to digital. He explained (too high tech for me) if your camera is capable of creating images 2400 pixels wide, maximum output in print would be just 8 inches.

I do hope that Don uses the phrase "probably be his last" very loosly as his HTGWCGP books are bibles to many Growers. In saying that though i still have to be able to afford to buy Book 3 as i only have Book's 1 & 2. A lottery win would be nice right now.

Why doesn't one of "the club's" raffle off a few of Don's books? Sounds like a good fundraiser!

No no no no... 8 inches wide?... that is what the textbook says, good software can enlarge it quite nicely. Looks BETTER than film, poster size can come out of digital SLRs. Take a look at any two-page spread in Sports Illustrated, all of that is shot with digital SLRs.
Anyway, it's not up to me to convice anyone. The print will!
