I would appreciate it if you could take a look at the pictures in my Growers Diary postings from 11/21/04 and see if you can identify what is happening. I think, in my opinion, the black circles contain fungal spores. CM

I'm far from an experienced grower, but I would say it looks like mold. I use to live in a filthy crack-house kinda place, and we had stuff that looked just like that in the bathroom. Was that pumpkin exposed to consistantly damp conditions?

I learned this little catch phrase a few years ago while taking the master gardener program: "If your spots have dots, its a fungus that you gots!"

Hey CM take a look at my 2002 diary...in the september range you'll see pictures very simlar to yours..I had to read through your diary but noted that you too are experiencing early aborts with the fungus...I went two years like that and had finally had tissue samples done.... turned out to be fusaria and alternaria....believe me it's already to late to get your tissue sample done since secondary fungi could be in there but let that patch go and look for a new spot...do not grow any vining plants there for 4 years...that includes string beans and tomatoes...there are other cures if it's what we think it is and thee are no other spots to grow but they're expensive ...ground sterilization is one...many a person here who are limited in space have done it with great results...I think you'll see our photos and experiences line up with my 2001-2002 seasons...keep the faith move the patch..LOL..2002 has my elephant/circus excerpt...good readin...anyway good luck and Grow em Big! Chuck
