At least 1 inch of rain per week (acc. to the rain gauge) to be safe, if you don´t have rain the equal amount of water depending on your patch size. That´s how I read it, feel free to correct if wrong.

20 lbs per day or 20 gallons per day ?
Giant Pumpkins require approximately 1 to 1 ½ inches of water per week. The amount of water required can vary greatly depending on soil type, temperature, humidity, time of year, etc. Once you get a feel for your garden you can better adjust to your own watering needs. But many growers need a good starting place.
To cover a 1000 square foot garden evenly with 1 inch of water it takes 623 gallons. (1 gallon = 231 cubic inches) This is 89 gallons per day, or 178 gallons every other day. For 1 1/2 inches of water per week it takes 934.5 gallons per week, or 133.5 gallons per day, or 167 gallons every other day.
if you really want lbs. per day let me know and I'll look up the density of water and do the conversion.

Density- Smentsity ! I don't need that ... what was I thinking... ? lol !
1 gallon of fresh water weighs 8.34 lbs.
so 20 lbs of water would be 2.3981 gallons.

Why don't you try the metric system??? Seems easier to me!
1 liter is 1 kilogram and one cubic meter is 1000 liters or 1000 kilograms. And 1 mm of water per square meter is 1 liter. Easy, isn't it?
Now, could you convert?

i love the base of 10..... also, remember, not all water goes to the fruit, you have to compensate for the amount the plant uses as well, and don't over water. Also, as mentioned before, soil type is crucial. sandy soil will drain quicker than clay.... Tom
