Who do you think will break 1500 pounds, what seed will it be on, and the Weight. To make it interesting I will offer 4 seeds from my collection to the winner. The winner will pick from my seed list(I have a few good seeds)Nothing will be hidden If anybody would like to add to the prize please add it to the board. My guess is Jack Larue in 2005 on the 1104 Hester and the final weight of 1506 pounds. Eddy Zaychkowsky Rules: Only 1 entry per person. If there is a tie, the first entry will be the winner Entry must include: Growers Name that breaks the barrier, Year it will be grown in, Seed it will be grown on, Final Weight, and your name in full. (as I did above with my guess) Entry's must be posted on this board Closest weight without going over. Must be an Official weight. (Site weighoff) First Fruit weighed (East coast has an advantage) Let's have some fun Eddy

Bruce had a bit of an off year with only a 1000 pounder. Look out for him next year.

I'm going to say Joel Holland, 1507 in 2005 and using store bought seed... no, maybe not. I have no idea what he's planning on growing. I'd also say the Handy's have a good shot given their consistently huge fruit, and Kirk mombert's had 4 years in a row of 1000+

Al Eaton his weights the last 4 years keep going up by an average of 125 pounds. Starting in 2001 he had a 1153 then a 1236 then a 1301 then a 1446. Most consistent grower out there. My guess would be 1570 off the 842 or his own 1446. Nobody else comes close for new personal bests year after year with huge weight.

I believe Brett Hester is long overdue for a world record so he gets my vote for the first 1500 pound pumpkin off his own 1104.5 in 2005. He loses some monsters every year but one of these days the cards will fall for him!!

I think one of the little guys like me who have great knowledge of growing, 10+ tears and years, whom have been whipped down year after year due to mother nature being not so kind deserve a nice break and a big one.Maybe not 1500 but over 1000... I hope some not so big named, but yet seasoned many years over growers do some big things in 2005 as all of the hard work over the many years will hopefully pay off .......Good luck to all those that will not give up and a happy 2005 to all....JK....

I'm going to vote for myself, with at weight of 1515, grown from my 926 Hunt/04 (1097.5 x 842). No, seriously, I think it will be either Jack LaRue @ 1530, with the 1104 Hester or Al Eaton @1530 with his 842 Eaton.

I would think Larue and Eaton would be odds on favorites. What Jerry said about there being many capable growers, and the weather would need to be favorable, is right on IMO. Also, the luck of the seed draw comes into play.

Jerry: Regarding the time thing, I agree. With kids, your time is extremely limited, and its infinitely more important to spend time with the kids than in the patch, especially when they're little. In a few years, though, they will love being the Pumpkin Kings of their school when you take a 1500# in for show & tell. Besides, you have to wait until they're at least five or six before letting them do the weekly pest/fungicide spraying for you... :)

Here's vote for the up & coming Michigan growers to shock the Pumpkin World:
I'll say either: Joe Platte (05) 1565 from 1097 Beachy
or Chad Swartz (05), 1532 from the as of yet unproven 745 (Todd) Swartz
Now if Todd's reading this, he might have something to say about whether Chad beats him to 1500 or not... :)

Marc P (in Iowa) thanks for your vote! I plan to have 842 Eaton, 869.5 Calai and 1260 weir as my proven plants and a 1097 Beachy if i can get him to cough one up. I will most likely be proving my 1083 (842 Eaton X 1225 Jutras) my 1125 (869.5 Calai X 1225 Jutras) and i am super excited about my 37 Frantz 04 (869.5 Calai x 842 eaton).
