john elliot, steve or sue green, bill cartwright ,eddy z (if it doesn't snow all summer ) ray adriance he told me that this was my year and he was right ! so a hint have him tell you you're going to break 1000lbs as well -worked for me !

There are lot of growers out there that could potentially break the 1000# mark for the first time. I hope to be one of them. There are too many variables in this hobby working against you to pick any one person out of this crowd. There are a lot of great growers that have yet to reach the magic number. Good luck to everyone next season, I hope we all do it.

2 of the accidents involved statioinary objects......

sorry for the hijack. Don't see what some moron driving his WRX through a house "cause the throttle stuck" has to do with me growing a 1000 pounder. ;)

Ok, seriously, Brian "BrianinOregon" is gonna bust the 1k mark I think this year.

I have to agree with copper "I hope we all do it"

But if I had to bet the house... I'd have to say with those trees out of the way, the probably near perfect soil, and the wealth of knowledge. Tremor.
Another would be Kahuna3...this guys onto something!

Oh ya did I mention me?

Thanks for the vote of confidence Randy and Deb, I will try my best.
I would say Copper and Kahuna3 as really good possibilities, but if my research is right, I'd really like to see Howard Dill make to the magic mark. I believe he made it to 980 this year.

Thank you Ben. How about we both break the 1000 pound mark next year and be done with it!?! LOL I would say you have a much better shot at 1k than I do but that doesn't mean I won't give it my best shot.

I'll just keep trying to learn as much as I can from all of you and from my own mistakes and hope for the best. I may be fairly new at this and I know I have a lot to learn, but I have learned that anything can happen. Murphy rules the pumpkin patch and we all need a little luck and a lot of hard work to break the 1000 pound barrier. I sincerely hope every grower here meets or exceeds their goals in '05.

My vote goes to Ben(Subaru), Kyle(southern), Erick(CEIS)and Steve(Tremor). You all deserve it much more than I do.

Gee thanks Burr! But id say i got a few more years till my soil gets right to get 1000,lol maybe ill get lucky!

Theres is a bunch of people that stick out in my mind, the one that really sticks out is Kahuna also, but id also bet the car on these people that do alot of research and planning, and i think are over due is , Steve,Copper,MartinReiss,Southern and Basebell, (these are the ones I think havnt hit a 1000 yet)

But I just got this funny feeling that the new world record holder is going to be ether Brett Hester or Jack La Rue.

Oh and as my side bet, Id put my money on the Wentzell's for a world record also.

I don't believe Howard has done much different to his soil or technique in many years (and why should he?), but the constant improvement in seeds and genetics, and the likelihood that next year the weather couldn't be near as bad as this year, I'd bet the house on Howard hitting 1000. As for the Wentzells, that's too easy to say 1000. I'd bet on Lisa or Roger getting 1200 this year.

If we have a good summer next year, I can see myself getting a 1,000 plus very easy. I got my soil in tip top shape with the help from Steve Daletas and a few other world heavy hitters. This past summer, my patch was a mud hole with all the rain we had. All of my pumpkins went heavy this year. The 986 Checkon went 35% heavy for me. I hope others as well as me can hit the 1,000 mark in there time. PumpkinBrat

Thanks Phil.
I hope we can both do it.
Better(warmer)weather next year, sure would help.
I've got a few ideas for improvement.
Would be nice to see Howard Dill do it too.
AJG may be one to watch as well(over 700 lbs his first year, with only one plant, is impressive).

I'm pretty sure I met AJG down at the Austin, MN Weighoff.
I think it was a 729.5 lb. fruit he grew. If it's the young fellow I'm thinking of, I'm guessing he is probably 16-18 yrs. old.
If you read this AJG, do you remember sitting by me during the awards ceremony, a 6'10" 400 lb. fellow............

Just kidding, I'm 5'9"(subtract a half inch., I rounded up), and 165 lbs. I was one of those helping lift the pumpkins onto the scales. I asked you about your giant sunflowers.

Thanks for the vote of confidene Ed, I was beginning to feel unloved! lol.. Here is my top 3 to break 1000 pounds this year.

1. Ned Sandercock
2. Andy WOlf
3. Glenn Andrews

There is no doubt in my mind that Ned will topple this mark. He is seriously ready with soil seed, all he needs is the luck part.. (Can I have a can of juice Ned and Andy?)

Burr, Id like to see Dwain hit 1000 too.

If you really try to think about world records and who the next person will be, their really is a Big number of people that pops into your mind that you say to your self 'Oh I forgot all about this guy or gal, they could break the world record too". So your right, it could be anyone. Nic Welty is one that comes to mind for squash along with Len Stellpflug. Len is due for a Giant.

This has been a fun post, Thanks Everyone!

Thank 'ya for the nudge. Frankly I believe the patch will soon be burpped of the insanity I got myself into two years ago. We shall see what we shall see. Whew we sure put the good stuff in there all this year. If it is to be it will be. I saw one worm six inches in diameter and four feet long. That may be a good omen. :)

Best of the new year to all of you. May 'ye be knee deep in the finest poopy and unable to see over your rich orange pumpkins of the new year.

One thing I know for sure, there's not going to be any 1000's in Alberta for a few years yet, the Alberta record standing at only 817 thus far. Unless someone gets really lucky (good weather, good seed). Go Ned Sandercock!

Oh, come on Cameron, have some faith in us! LOL One of these years, somebody is going to do it. I think we're all just a few years behind the rest of the pumpkin world (plus a break from Mother Nature wouldn't hurt as well) There's a few of us with that goal in mind. I say there will be one by 2006.
