What would you do with it? All answers are welcome, even solicited, funny and serious.

I'd trade it to someone that could make good use of it. And in return I'd likely expect a truck...used would be fine.

Just sow it next spring and grow a pumpkin on the plant!! Although i would first of all ask Alan if he was going to sow a 1446 next year and if so what cross would he make or would he self it ?? Now there is a thought alan, just in case you get to read this !!

Grow it and cross it with a 1432 Carlson. It would probably be the first 1400+X1400+

AJG, If anyone in lucky enough to get a or several Eaton 1446 and 1432 Seeds that would be an interesting cross. The growers of these 2 wonderfull Pumpkins please chip in with you thoughts on the cross between these 2 Seeds.

I guess we now know who shouldn't bother sending Al Eaton a seed request this year.

I wouldn't have a 1446 Eaton '04.

Don't get me wrong Al is an excellent grower but would not grow a 1446, trade for one or buy one at auction.

Now if you want to talk about the 1420.5 Larue I would sell my wife and two kids for one, hell I may even throw in the family dog.

if someone had two 1446 seeds, and grows one of them
themselves and gives one to a friend, and can have 2
pollination choices to make, what is the best crossing
option? (assuming only one pumpkin per plant)

1. self one pumpkin and cross one 1446 plant with the other
2. self them both and cross them the following year
3. self one and cross the other with a separate seed say
the 1301.5 which is the male plant of the 1446
4. self one and cross the other with a 638 edwards (842 x
self)
5. cross one with the other and vice versa with the
intentions of continuing the flip flop crosses as long
as possible
6. cross both 1446 plants with the same plant(example 1247
handy) and then cross those 2 plants the next year
7. cross both 1446 plants with separate plants for
2 new options of crosses

Ernie I am surprised .....you won't plant the 1446 but you'd sell your wife for a 1420 LaRue.....very nice seed but ???...the 1446 was 20% heavy...now Jack's fruit was a beast no doubt, but how can you not like a 1446 lber that was 20% heavy...I saw it in person, quite the fruit..no error in measurement, although its shape made it difficult to tape....but its size was no where near 1446.....I can say with a certain confidence its going in my patch in 2005,to be hopefully crossed back to the 842 or 1373 Dueck...the 1446 shows what is now needed to get to the next level.....big and heavy......imagine a fruit taping 1400 lbs going 20% over the charts... charts....1680 ......hmmmm...now the 1446 might not pass along those great genes, but why not just check out its history on the AGGC..you might just notice its not a freak ..carefully examine its genetic make-up.......hmmmmm

Does anyone know the genetics of 735 Eaton he grew (not sure which year). Al Eaton himself is allowing me to have a 1446 and a few 735 Eatons, in the hope that I would grow both and cross them. Does anyone know why this would be a good cross?

Mr. Orange

Hilpoltstein, Bavaria, Germany

Do you mean the 753 Eaton?

Here is what Al told me in an email:

"(...)
In 16 years of AGs,I must say, it is the most beautiful I have ever grown
and I plan to grow the 753 as a main plant next year.

Pedgree:

753 Eaton 04(uow)---1132 Eaton 03 x 842 Eaton 02 326" 6% over the
tables (this 842 grew the 1446)

It was grown as a mini-plant on 250 sq ft with no fertilizer.I cut the vine
off at 12 feet and let a fruit grow there at the end,see pic.

If you think you might want to grow this 753 just let me know by email and
the seeds are yours.(...)

Cheers--AE

Boy, that sounds very good, and I especially like how the male pollinator was from the plant that grew the 1446! I think I will take his advice; he is one (or the, maybe) best growers in the world, and there definitely seems to be a good reason behind it. Thanks,

Cameron
