In the shade - PDX, OR

Always a great question to ask at the end of a season.

We should learn a little more about growin these monsters with every season.

What changes are you considering making to your growing plans?

I'll start with three.
1) add a little more fert to the soil prep.
2) Consider "fresh" unproven seed with great genetic background.
3) Limit / reduce the time spent in the patch in August. -ever think that you have loved your fruit to death?

1) More organic matl. added in the soil prep.
2) Be more aggresive with some of my plants(don't worry so much about splits)
3) Come up with a better way of fighting vine bores.(digging them out one at a time is not fun)

I don't know what the cost is, but I'd like to get a test on the soil to see if there is anything in the soil, (pathogens?)that might have caused my pumpkin to drastically slow down in growth. I'll have to talk to the local coop and see what they suggest. Does anyone here have any suggestions?
