Hi everyone, I just want to ask a few questions. I will soon be moving to the Fraser Valley region this winter from Alberta, and have some questions about the growing climate their. I need to know what sort of bugs and diseases are down there (there isn't any bugs except aphids in Alberta) and what sort of Insecticides to use on them, and where can I get manure from this region, seeds that seem to have done well in the climate down there, last frost-free dates, etc. etc. In addition, I would like to make contact with the growers from that region (including Vancouver Island) if they would email me. Oh, and the first frost date in autumn, too for that region.
Yours truly,

Cameron

Haven't had frost yet. We just had our weigh-off today, so your timing is good, lots of cool growers in this area. Aphids are a big problem out here too, haven't dealt with much else. Climate is great. As for seeds, try some VanKooten seeds or Emmons, anything from the PNW should be a good fit for around here. Good luck with your move.

Can you tell us exactly where you will be living? There are many micro climates in the area. Sure hope that you have some Southern exposure.

Well, I will probably be living around the Cloverdale/Abbotsfors area, maybe even in Yarrow, we don't actually have a house picked out yet. We'd better get one soon (and get the house sold) so that I have time to prepare the soil in the new spot (were not moving to a place where I can't grow pumpkins! In that generally area, anyhow. I know of a few B.C growers, just a few, because I saw there names on A.G.G.C, David Pley of Nanaimo & Jake van Kooten of Port Alberni. Hope to get more replies,

Cameron

Check the results of the North Shore Weigh-Off in the weigh off section - that's most of the Lower Mainland growers right there.

Darren Sturch grows some huge pumpkins out in Abbotsford. There are about 6-7-8 members of the North Shore Boyz in North Vancouver, and then there's me in Vancouver (I think I'm it for now).

Cloverdale is an awesome spot with alot of small hobby farms with small acreages. The are is growing rapidly and the prices of homes and land are getting crazy. There are lots of BC Growers that you will get to know soon enough.

Good luck/Glenn
