Some seeds are turning color, what is the proper way to clean and dry seeds. If I want them to grow next year I think I should keep them out of the oven, those came out alittle crunchy inside.

Many growers spread the cleaned seed out on a sheet of tin foil or "waxed paper". Keep them above 70° preferably with
"some movement" of air around them. One wants to avoid "mildew". It may take up to two weeks to completely dry.....depending on the temperature.

Blackened seeds (coating only) are not neccessarily bad. The 1036.5 Kline had some blackening on them and they germinate just fine and have been grown and proven.

My preffered method for drying seeds is to spread them on a window screen (making sure no seeds touch) and have a fan on them 24hrs a day at normal room temperature (68-75). They are ready for shipping in 7-10 days.

I found that using a non stick baking tray works great, just wash the seeds, get as much water out as possible, and then put them on the tray. Once or twice a day, just mix them around so they dont stick to each other and/or the tray. In about a week and a half membranes start to come off, remove these and let it sit for another week, when the seeds move around easily on the tray and seem to be dry, take a brown paper lunch bag and poke holes in it. Put the seeds in the bag and let it sit open for a week, then just staple the bag closed, or send the seeds to whoever you want to. Hope this helps! (It worked for me)

the not stick baking sheet does work great... just
don't put them in the over to clean up the counter
and have your wife turn on the oven the next morning
to bake something.
I came down the stairs and said... what's cooking...
smells like it's starting to burn ?
she was stirring the muffin mix... looking at me like
what are you talking about ?! luckly they weren't any
great demand seeds, and weren't over done...
if you can't plant them eat them !
- just don't ask about the time i put my 4 inch pea
pots with seeds on the cookie sheet in the oven with
the light on as a germination chamber...
you can't eat seedlings...
-you'd think i'd learn ! ?!

You're going to have to "breakdown" and go to the nearest "Goodwill Store" and buy a used waterbed heater. It won't "cook" your seeds or seedlings! Works great!
