My 591.6 had a total of 176 seeds, how many are viable, I won't know till they dry. What is strange is that 26 seeds are a tan {like dark eggs} color, and about 30-50 are a mixed tint {almost white, but with a touch of tan}, and the rest were all white {light egg white}. All of the seeds were hand picked with the immature seeds and half developed seeds tossed aside.
Who has ever seen this, and what genetic did you find it on? I've never seen this in all the years of growing {1990 - present}. I'm sure someone has experienced this. Any info on this subject is greatly appriciated!

This year i got only 56-57 viable seeds out of my 729.5. The pumpkin hadn't rotted our any thing, there just wasn't vary many seeds. Of the seeds i had some normal colored ones with a grayish huge. I'm color blind so you might not to trust my input.

I never saw anything like it but read about it at a now quiet genetics website. At the time, I figured the grower had immature seeds. But the picture Marc posted looks like all mature seeds with some having two coats & others just one.

Why do you say that G? What have you experienced? Should I expect to see them all dry one uniform color? So far there isn't any difference. I have found a few more whites and tan empties, but they are drying to a tan and white color still. Which ones are better? LOL!!!!

I once had a dog that had a litter of puppies. Some were tan and some were white.

Here is another weird trait I discovered on a different fruit.
http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=29567
The 575 Dill X 567 Mombert fruit was opened, and this is what I found inside, along with like 500 seeds! This also is something I have never seen before.

We had that weird green gut thing going on here last year. The fruit was on a 707 Toftness (846x723) that I injected with Giberellins just before the stem with a hypodermic syringe. The seeds were very thick & some didn't develope properly. The deformed seeds resemble a thumb. Some were green & fleshy while others were hard & more woody. The seeds that did appear normal germinated normally.

Marc, Good chance those darker seeds will be hollow. I see that quite often in fruit. (5-10%) of fruit have this happen

All the Seeds in my 1996 662 (ZEHR 968 X MOMBERT 567.5) were pure white, small but plump.

Tom; You were correct, most of the dark seeds dried and when gently squeezed, show no signs of a developed embryo. There were, though, 4 seeds that dried {definatly are 100% developed} but are VERY dark tan in color. I'll plant them this spring and see what happens from them. Could this be as rare as hermaphradites in other plant species and be some weird genetic quirk? Is it possible that this is some odd hybrid trait? A very strange and unusual occurance...

Marc, last season the seeds in my pumpkin, the 524 Hunt (974.5 Eaton x 907.5 Gibson) were tan when I harvested them, but as they dried they started changing white. They were white when they were completely dried. I tested them and they germinated fine. I have never seen this before.
