How much rye should be used on an acre? My kids and I put 2 bushel on and we have many thick as well as bare patches. Was that enough or too much. I would like to seed the bare spots again or is it too late for the Ohio Valley area? (I'm not planting an acre of AG just a mixed assortment of pumpkins. But, I am concentrating site prep for my AG patch). Tom

Tom, I put on 100 lbs. of winter rye on my 1/2 acre. It could have used a bit more to really make it thick. It is about 3-4" high now.

Bantam I would add another 25 lbs for the birds.... Also rake it in. I run my rototiller over it really fast, it's the best cover crop Iv'e ever had.

Ladies and gents, are you talking about the same "winter rye grass" that is used to overseed a lawn after it turns brown down south or is it a different rye? Thanks.
