seeds from the 940 Mombert have grown what are possibly the most beautiful pumpkins in the entire world. They ar not the biggest(500-800), but they are gorgeous, glossy, and bright orange with field-pumpkinish ribbing (not too deep). This has been a consistent pattern with the 940 Mombert. IT IS SPECIAL. If a person could plant a field with nothing but 940 Momberts, they would have very little trouble selling every last one.
I would NOT cross it with anything. If I were you I would self it to perpetuate the combination of "beautiful" genes contained in the seed. You have an amazing seed in your posession. If you ever want to get rid of it, let me know.

the 802 was selfed this year by a grower named Biss. The AGGC only records 3 seeds from the 802 ever having been grown. All of them were light in color, and not as round as the progeny of the 940 Mombert, so I would expect that a cross between the two would produce inconsistent results.
Southern selfed the 940 this year and produced a beauty, too. I can imagine that those seeds will be very desirable in the coming years.

Do you know my 714.1Frei03 ? It`s a "802Dill02 x self" too. It had a nice orange color, a good shape "and" an extremly thick stem! "burrhead", which of the two 940Mombert (..98 or ..00) do you mean? - Peter

I was just going to ask what Peter did. The 940 Mombert 98 grew the 1262 Emmons. A beautiful large pumpkin. The 940 Mombert 00 hasn't produced any real large ones, but the few I've seen are very pretty, with nice shape.

There are two 940s? Oh. I missed that detail. Sorry. I'll have to look it up again.

I saw your 714.1, Musicpete, and there is no question, it is a beautiful pumpkin. For the sake of genetics, I will still assert that selfing the 940 Mombert 00 to perpetuate its "beauty" genes is ideal. That way you end up with a pumpkin FILLED with 940 genetic seeds.
Also ideal, in my opinion, would be to cross the progeny of the 940Xself with the progeny of the 802Xself (or the 714.1 Frei 03) in 2006.
