I remember when I was a kid, my mum used to bundle us in the car and we woould drive to somehwere (this was in Southern California in the 1970's btw) there were big tanks (I remember 2 maybe there were more or maybe just one) up on a hill. One tank was decorated around Halloween time as a giant pumpkin. I think my mum even had a photo clipping of it from a newspaper, so it must have been popular! I remember there were lots of other cars who came to see it. Does anyone else remember this? And if so does anyone have a photo of it or can direct me where to find one on the net? I would love to show it to my 3year old daughter :) let me know if u can help! Cheers!

Neither of these are it, thought theyre both great :) The one i remember is a cylindrical shape - well as tall as it is wide, not rounded vertically. It was illuminated at night and was up on a hillside. We lived in the San Fernando Valley outside of Los Angeles, so it couldnt have been more than an hour drive in any direction. Any ideas how I might go about finding this? Thanks for your help! I know it seems silly :)

HI Jet you are right The giant Pumpkin was painted on a round tank about 60 feet in diameter. The tanks were in an Oil Refinery. Can you remember the flames coming out from the top's of some tanks. The flame would shoot up and then come down for awhile. They were used to burn off the gases and fumes. Can you remember everybody getting a bag of popcorn as you drove down the long parking area. I Also took my son's and daughter there at about the same that you were there. San Fernando was about 35 miles north of where the tanks were in wilmington. I will surf around abit and see what I can find. I do not know if wilmington has there own new's paper but I am sure that Long Beach (not sure what the paper is called there will still have some info. I am sorry to say that I have not seen the tank painted in a long time. I live about 65 miles South of San Fernando. John = Water

Wow thanks so much for confirming :) The last time I was there I was probably only about 4 years old, so the memory was a bit vague! I will do some hunting as well, if you do come up with any pics please let me know - and thanks again! :))))
