I went to a local garden supply center to check on the availability of various things I will or may need during the coming season. Primarily gypsum (in case the soil tests reveal a deficiency). When I inquired about it, the first thing out of the clerks mouth was "What do you need it for?" When I replied that I may need to boost the calcium levels of my soil, he responded "Just add more lime. You don't need to add calcium." He said this without even knowing the results of my soil test, or even asking." After a bit of arguing, he finally told me that they did have it (if I wanted to waste my money) for $9.00/40lb bag. If any growers in the northern West Virginia (Wheeling or Steubenville, OH) area knows of a good supply place, could you please e-mail me. I'm done with a particular supply center. Although I won't post the name of the place online, I will tell anyone who e-mails me.

I don't know the store, I'm even thousands of miles away. What was an upsetting event could lead to some improvements in your local store. Talk to the manager, let him or her know what a bozo they have working up front and why you needed gypsum, etc. You might just be surprized. I own a business and I'm always the last to know of a bad employee. However, if the owner is a bozo, let your shoes do the talking.

Unfortunately, the employee is the owners brother, I believe. It's a family business. I have encountered this cocky attitude in this place before, from the owner himself. I don't have many other options, unless I go closer to Pittsburgh.

Plus, $9.00 per 40 lbs. is too much. I get it for about $6 a bag here..

Monte, Im pretty close to you, im 10 minutes from wheeling and the only place i know of is the tractor farm supply in elm grove. The Best place I Think to get it is off Tremors company Lesco, email him he will hoook you up, they will send it right to your door as fast as u want it.

Hmmm, I checked the nearest Lowes, they didn't have it :\
Tractor Supply in Follansbee doesn't have it either. I found a number for Lesco in Weirton (I think) in the phone book, but got no answer. Wouldn't shipping a number of 40-50lb bags be expensive? Of course, if Tremor's going to till it in anyway, he could just bring it with him...lol
I'll e-mail him. Thanks

Most Lowe's here have it. I believe the product name on the bag is Claysoft.

With lots of the ferts us pumpkin growers use, the normal greenhouse workers will look at us like we're crazy and try to tell you to use something else. You just gotta tell em, "listen, this is what i want to buy, do you want my business or do you me to go to the next store down the road?

I e-mailed Tremor. I will also check the St. Clairsville, Oh Lowes. I would love to tell them that Brigitte, but there isn't another store down the road! lol
