Hello everyone, got a question. I live on a Onion and Carrot farm so with good carrots and onions come bad carrots and onions, or culls. Would these culls be good to till into the patch. And would the tops that come off the carrots and onions be good too. They decay over winter very fast and theres plenty to till in. Thanks for your help.

You can compost or till into the soil. It all depends if you are growing a cover crop.

Same answer! Anything like that can be added as long as it decomsoses in six months.....ie. your soil does not freeze!

one other note if you have alot of deer in the area is it a good idea to be putting such things like carrots apples beets things like that in your patch if you don't have a good fence up.

Jacek,
That's what I was thinking when I read about tilling apples, pears, etc. into the soil! We have a huge cherry tree in our garden. The birds steal a lot of cherries at harvest time and drop the seeds all over the garden and little cherry trees are emerging everywhere! Don't know if it is a good idea!
