The compost version might be usefull to kick start a cold pile, but if the pile isn't balanced properly, the microbes will just die. In my experience, a well balanced, properly watered, and tended compost pile will make good compost in 6-9 weeks or less without help. I make a tillage version of compost that I only let decompose to about 70%. I save it up, then in the spring add a little grass or manure to wake it up again then till it in after a day or two. I am curious to find out if that stuff would do the same thing.

I wake up the piles with one of the best activators going. That would be my left over molasses. I like to buy new and use up the older thickend leftovers. Nothing fires up the bacteria any better than plain 'ole black strap molasses.
