I like the 1082 Curry 03 and wonder why the 734 Cheam 02 and
1076.5 Werner 02 have not been tried more.

Sorry have to put this plug in....

Been saying it since we made the cross last year....

727 Pearce '03 (1337 Houghton x 1230 Daletas)

Grew Roger Howards 1054 this year and yes Roger is a first year grower, also he missed first place by 14lbs.

It also grew J.D. Megchelsen's 504 and 707 (on same plant) of Nikiski, Alaska. Both broke the Alaska record of 356lbs.

And of course my 716 taped ott of 342 but sat off the vine for 21 days in hot Sept weather. Severe hail damaged plant (two hail storms) and in 218 sq.ft.

I also like the 802 Dill and 1301 Eaton...

Mr. Orange

for big and orange:
1370 Rose 03
1076.5 Werner 02
670 Daigle 03

for big only:
763 Biss 03
1178 Wentzell 03
1104 Hester 03
713 Kurkowski 01
1097.5 Beachy 02 (only if you grow several plants and thus don't fear splits on this one)

and of course also the 842 Eaton, 695 Handy, 805 and 735 Pukos, 1260 Weir
plus many, many more...

I think the 500 (898 x 845?) is the reverse of the 1068 Wallace which is 845B x 898K.

Giant Veggies.......I can't wait to get my greedy little paws on some of your fantastic sounding seeds. Hope to soon get off a bubble pack. I was reading in the paper that Sask had a terrible pumpkin growing season. Guess you were lucky huh?? or is it you know something they don't???

Yeah Dave I liked the look of Dale's 1028. (734 Duffy)
It was a light orange with heavy cantalouping. Pretty tall and round.

My ears perked up when I saw the parent info. (I remembered that I had this one on my seed list.)

For Hot color I'll pick the 782 Stucker Jim grew it in 02 & Gordon had good results this year.
I want to see how Ben does with the 711 Handy in OZ!

I say get a lot of the lesser known 2004 crosses...

why?

There are a ton of x-l-ent crosses...!!!!

Make 2005 the year of the "unknowns" !

I'd like to point your attention to the 975 & 807 Summers seeds.

The 975 grew an 1145 and an 807 this year.
I believe that the 807 was by a first year grower with limited help.

Genetically speaking, it is a second generation 846 X 723 strain cross.
Sound familiar? Yes, very similar to the 842 & 1301 Eatons.

10/15/2004 1:14:21 PM

hey you

Greencastle, PA

how about the 490 Beachy? It's the reverse of the 1097.5 and grew a 1000lber this year for Tom. His fruit had great shape and his diary said it had thick walls. the 932 Steeves is a great cross but i don't think it's been grown. I might try it next year, it's an 810 Dill x 1016 Daletas. I like the 803.4 Davies too, but i don't know what it grew this year. The 1446 Eaton is going to be a great seed... it has the potential to grow a 1500+ lber. The 963 Stucker grew a 1082 last year and a 900+ lber this year. I'm surprised it hasnt been grown more, it's proven and is a great cross (801.5 Stelts x 935 Lloyd). I grew a 298 off it this year, it was a great plant and a great fruit. I'm also surprised the 1061.5 Ciliberto hasn't been grown very much, it grew a 1213 last year, I grew that one too and it was a great plant, only got to 119 though, but the ott estimate was 70. Nic Welty has some nice squash crosses, his 312, 546, and 744 should do very well. I think the 1242 Checkon will grow some big ones too. Check out the 357 Davies too...

Ceis,
What do you mean by "second generation" 846 X 723 strain cross? Could you be more specific please?
Thanks.

Thanks Tremor. Those do look like promising crosses!
I wish I was hooked up with the AGGC, so I wouldn't have to keep asking these genetic cross questions. Thanks for putting up with me everyone:-)
