Can someone explain to me the results of using the seeds of a 'hybrid' type of pumpkin the following year? I bought 'Hybrid Prizewinner' seeds from Gurney's this year and used them with some success. I was going to use the seeds from the best one for next year but a friend told me I wouldn't want to use them because the results may not be the same. Is that true?

Yes it is. I've planted hybrids and normally the next year I get 2 to 3 pound gourd thinks. Also if you plant seed from hybrid tomatoe plant the next year you will get cherry tomatoes.

Because of random pollination by insects or other methods, next generation plants may not produce plants (or fruits) typical of their parents.

Don't use the seeds out of "hybrids" the next year, results are never the same. I've had a large # of people e-mail me for seeds out of my 4lb. Big Zac Tomatoes & I tell them all the same thing. I don't keep them, I use "fresh" every year.........Paul
