In all honesty, 69 year old Leo Swinnamer Sr. would kick your ass. He is the undisputed Nova Scotia Pumpkin Boating Champion. His time this year (beating last years record) was just over 10 minutes. For comparison, a tri-maran (3 pumpkins attached to a metal frame) with a 6 horse outboard crossed the lake in just under 6 minutes. He was moving so fast he had a frickin wake. It doesn't have this years results up yet, but check out www.worldsbiggestpumpkins.com. There's links from there to pictures, results etc. from last years regatta, and hopefully this year's results will be up soon.

What was the exact distance traveled? I have heard he is amazing. I would like to know what rate he is acheiving. I will see what comparable speeds I can get this year. It does depend greatly on the pumpkin, I had a perfect one last year for paddling. This year, a bit too large for a good paddler. Maybe I will go into training, and make my way up north next year. Well, unless I get beat bad Sunday haha

p.s. Going to be a test in how much motor a pumpkin can take this time, first one to the bottom of the lake looses...

I'll see if I can find out, I know it took me for friggin ever to get across that distance. But I was watching Leo, I paid close attention to his carving style, the shape of his boat, and his paddling technique, I'm going after him next year, and if you think you can challenge him we'd love to have you come up and give it a shot. Maybe we can set you up with a pumpkin when you get here, save you from having to drag one up yourself.
