Hi everyone, Somewhere I read how to measure the pumpkin and estimate its weight. I have looked and looked and I cannot find it any place. Would someone please repeat this formula for me? Thanks in advance. Vonnie

Try that site search button on the top of the page. Type in estimate and hit GO.

There is a section in the How-to-Grow World Class Giant Pumpkins II book on this subject. It includes how to measure Over-the-top and a table where you can cross reference the total OTT inches to get the estimated weight. Also, the Pumpkin Tracker I am working on will provide this right here on the site.

Maybe we could get one of our experienced growers to write an article on How to Measure and Estimate Pumpkin weight? Any takers?

Hi Vonnie - We read that you measure with a cloth or plastic tape:
#1 Over the top side-to-side #2 Over the top stem to blossom end #3 Circumference, parallel to the ground Then you add up the three numbers and multiply by 1.9 for an estimated weight.
*For measurements #1 and #2 we measure to the ground on each side, but then subtract two inches since you are only supposed to measure to the where the widest part of the pumpkin ends and not to the ground. Sometimes it's kind of hard to gauge just where the widest point is when the tape is dangling along side the pumpkin.
There was also a chart which allows you to compare just a circumference measurement, but your pumpkin needs to measure at least 70 inches circ. before you can use it. That's approximately 93lbs. according to the chart.
Hope this helps.
That was in "How to Grow World Class Pumpkins"

Vonnie, I had the same question and search, mine ended successfully at www.giantpumpkin.com. It contains exserts from 'How to Grow World Class Pumpkins', click on "Estimating Weight" and you will get a nice diagram on how to measure AND the tables to convert inches to pounds. Have fun. Wes@Calif
