In my Photo diary is a pic of the Eaton 1446. This pumpkin was huge and took along time to get it to the scales. The straps were almost too short for it. It was so big around that the shouilders kept falling into the mast of the fork lift and it had to be held away from the mast. The Port Elgin crew took extra care to ensure its safety. About a 1/2 hour was spent just too weigh it and lift it safely.

Impressive but - sorry - looks pretty ugly. Not much rest of the 846 genes or am I wrong here?

Didn't look very ugly up close. Looked great with twin boys sitting in the hollow, cute as a button.

Kahuna3 - thanks for posting the pic. I missed the weighing in of Al's pumpkin and haven't had time to check out our pics yet, although I did see the video clip on our website. We work really hard to ensure the safety of all pumpkins, and are glad when people notice. There is also pics on our website. You can find us at www.pumpkinfest.org.

I have to ask, what defines a "pretty" or "ugly" Atlantic Giant? If you ask me, a 1400 pound atlantic giant, regardless of it's colour or shape, would be the absolute prettiest looking thing I would ever want to see sitting in my garden, whereas the most symetrical, orange, 100 pound AG would be quite pitiful and ugly out there.

I'd have to agree with NST, this ain't no beauty contest! A solid 1400+ would sure look purdy to me. Chad

Same here, It looked just fine to me. I remember Al posting on the mallorn list that the shape was due mainly to the fact he didn't get the vine adjusted in time.

Yea its sure is puuuuuuuurty to me, and thanks for that info huff, i was wondering about why the stem was pointing down like that. I just thought he couldnt make any ajustments to it so he had to let it grow like that. I wonder if it would have been even bigger if he could have had the stem level with the vine. I wonder if he had to do anything special to it so it didnt pull away from the vine at that angle. Brooks

Pynki, Your Port Elgin crew did a great job. It sure looked big in the back of that truck. A fine pumpkin of enormity that being ugly cannot discredit due to its shear size and world recordness.
