I would like to take a moment and recognize a different, large group in this thread. I would like everyone on this site to take a second in this post-season, to recognize the efforts of those in the pumpkin grower world who took the time, made the effort and put their heart and soul into their plants and fruit this year. It takes a special sort of person indeed to devote their entire summer to caring for and nurturing their plants, a large portion of their fall to make sure their babies get as much as they need in the following year, a winter of giving and sharing, happily giving away seed to newcomers and veterans alike, and a spring of effort hurrying along mother nature so we can do what we so love. To all of those who did not reach 1000 pounds but reaped the accomplishment of staying the course, learning from mistakes and making so many new friends, in this hobby that many do not understand, but all are fascinated by..I salute you. We are a tight knit group. One that is completely dedicated to our cause, be it individually or as a whole, we strive to do our best and show the world what we have sown from a single seed. This hobby is not only about growing fruit that are spectacles to the non-grower, it is about growing a community, and each and every person that makes the effort to grow a giant pumpkin in the spring is part of that community. So this post is for each and every grower that has or has tried to grow a giant pumpkin. Your efforts are recognized, and you should be proud of what you do. Whether a heavy hitter, part of the 1000 pound club, or an eager rookie, you are all part of the community and should be proud of what you have done. Thank you all, each and everyone, for being part of the gang.

very well stated, and i would like to thank you bill for all the help that you offered me, a rookie to this addiction... you got me started in the right direction and even though my results this year are not spectacular, they are definitely enough to keep my interest. i owe 175 lbs (est) to you and everyone on this site who sent me seeds, gave me advice, and brought all of this together... more information on here than i had ever imagined i'd find. i figured this whole giant pumpkin growing would be secretive, but found everyone more than willing to help... thanks to all of you and you bill especially
