I tried using sand under my fruit this year instead of styrofoam sheets. Worked great, and my fruit is noticeably more 'round' on the bottom. The problem is the pumpkin doesn't sit flat on the pallet in the trailer. So I will have to wedge something under it before strapping it down & safely transporting it. I think I'd feel better (safer) with a flat bottomed pumpkin when driving down the freeway with it...Just a thought regarding the 'sand' vs. 'foam' debate... Good luck to all while transporting... Just place a pallett sized piece of 4 inch thick high density foam on the pallett and then lightly strap the pumpkin down to the pallett. The Pumpkin will not rock around and the foam is firm enough to stabilise the Pumpkin.
