It is sad to say BUT the Iowa summer has taken it's toll once again...We have seeded our 1432# fruit last night..It will not make the trip To Anamosa to show as Exh. Only...and to top that off..we have lost our 552 Green squash also..Leaving us with but only one fruit....The 552 was green as grass and taping to 375" or so.....She was going heavy then that I am sure ...BUT not no more..Stem end split that we could not see was the culprit we believe....Bummer....But it happens

We were not able to weigh it..she was beyond that point..made me feel good that petey and I weighed the earlier one when we did..we would not have wanted this to happen to the 1432.....It had to happen back when we got our last big rain..BUMMER but it's the hobby...HEARTLESS i tell you...
and the cross was?? WHATELSE!! SELFED!!!
Seeds were in a slury..Marc it trying to dry them down without germinating them..Good luck ...We will do our best
seeds from the 1432 were black..about half of them..the other half was fine..they are drying also
See you friday evening Mike

Dan,

Sorry to hear about your remaining fruit. You are correct when you say this hobby can be heartless, mother nature or vandal. No matter what it is, you put your heart and soul into growing these things, and in the snap of a finger, it all tumbles downward.
